To mark messages in the Inbox as unread, check the box on the far left side of the row, then select Mark as Unread from the Actions box at the top.
Another method is to open the message and then click on the first icon on the right top.
In the mobile app on your phone, swipe from right to left across the message in the Inbox and select Unread.
